Why Sell To Us?

There’s a stack of good advice around the Internet about how business owners can choose the right partner in a sales process.
Analogies have been made, many of them quite humorous, about the similarities between this process and finding a perfect romantic partner.
Without labouring the point, or repeating clichés, we do believe that the old adage. ‘When fools rush in’ to be particularly appropriate in business and in personal life.
We understand that selling your business after many years of blood sweat and tears can be a challenge, and the exit process itself can be draining too, but please, never let this cloud your judgement so you end up doing a deal with the wrong party, and ultimately seeing the business you built ruined, with the team you nurtured heading for the job centre!
We are proud that EMC’s model stands up to examination. We have the experience – an established and successful portfolio of four trading businesses with combined revenues of over £50m built up since 2004 – and most importantly the resources to transact, and quickly.
Because we are a boutique family office business, we are agile and able to respond to opportunities and get deals done within a tight timeframe if needed.
Even without time pressures you’ll find working with us on a deal much speedier with a 1-3 month timeframe than either selling to trade (6-12 months) or private equity (3-6 months.)
Of course we have to do the necessary diligence before we invest – but any prospective new owner would too, but subject to there being no skeletons under the boardroom table, or unforeseen issues, we believe in those old-fashioned and important values of honesty and integrity, and always try and live by the family values, upon which EMC has been built by keeping our word as our bond.
For many vendors, often first-generation family businesses run by ‘baby boomers’, selling to the right partner will really matter. With EMC, we’ll respect the values and culture in your business, we’ll also continue to nurture the talent you’ve developed too, rather than installing new teams and unsettling a well-run enterprise.
Furthermore, there’s not a huge, complex corporate machine at EMC and while we are never hands-on operators in the businesses we back or own, we pride ourselves at always being at the end of the phone, if needed.
We know this isn’t always the case with private equity firms, or large corporates, so if you are among the 60% of small business owners without a succession plan, or even if you are at an age when you might be thinking about the future, then please drop us a line.
